What Does It Take to Change the World?

A lot of companies set out to change an industry or to change the world, but change that disrupts doesn't happen overnight. It's through a process of incremental improvements and numerous mistakes that the technology and vision to create a game-changing product is born.

What you do doesn't really matter. How you do it does.

This is what Tonic is about. We are launching this blog so that we can share how we tackle and resolve challenges with the hope that it can help you do what you do better.

We're going to talk a lot about why beautiful design is an essential business strategy, and what beautiful design means. That's a given as we are a user-centered design and technology company, but beyond than that, we'll cover:

1. Being fearless

At Tonic, we're passionate about digital experiences, and we believe that the only way to create truly beautiful experiences is to throw caution to the wind and be a little fearless. Live a little. Try the things that scare you. Experiment. And emerge at the end of it all with an entirely innovative perspective. We ask only one thing of our clients: "Are you willing to take a journey with us?"

Real victory comes from accumulating small wins and consistently adapting from mistakes learned along the way. It's perfectly ok to fail, as long as you fail big and fail fast. True innovation is born the moment you decide to throw all of your hard work away and rebuild again.

2. Solving problems

There are very few products (or designs) that are 100% original. Almost everything under the sun has been thought of before, created before, designed before. And with the collective memory of the Internet at our fingertips, it's really challenging to create unique designs.

But you know what is truly unique? The way your product solves problems for the users. That is what great design is really about: creating a better experience for your customers, and growing their engagement with your brand. At the end of the day, that is what will grow your business.

3. Connecting your company culture with the work you do

At Tonic, we've been fearless about hiring from Day One. There's no shortage of great designers and developers out there, so we look beyond the skill set. We hire people who can show us that they're problem-solvers and who are driven by the same philosophy of fearlessness that we are.

Our employees are willing to try, and try again, until they get it.

Your people will make you or break you. If you empower your employees to make mistakes and to learn from them with a focus on constant improvement, the latter won't be an option.

4. Taking it one step at a time

At Tonic, we have a lot of Big Ideas (as many as you do, I suspect), but we know that there are many steps and processes before a Big Idea becomes reality.and when it does, it may have changed dramatically from how it started out.

That's ok, as long as we remain fiercely committed to our original intention: helping our clients to solve business problems through great design. With this in mind, we can look at the Big Idea, and tackle it in stages to design a strong product that lasts, ultimately contributing to our clients' larger brand strategy.

At Tonic, we are really excited about launching this platform to share our thoughts, experiences, and learnings with you. We know it will take a while to get to know each other, but we're in it for the long haul. And we hope you will be too.
